Thursday Meme

It's been a while since I've done a Booking Through Thursday. Today's topic appealed to me so here we go with an old friend.

What’s the lightest, most “fluff” kind of book you’ve read recently?

I haven't had a lot of time to read anything at all lately having been on my pseudo-vacation and then getting the kids back to school. I just finished reading Julie & Julia by Julie Powell yesterday though. I'm not sure how "fluffy" this book is but I enjoyed it as a leisure kind of read. When I decided to read it, I didn't realize that it was a memoir. I believe this is the first memoir I've ever read. Julie said in her book that she was criticized for the foul language she used on her blog and thus, in her book, lol. I thought it was funny and made the book more real. I figure there are more important things to obsess over in life than someone's exuberant use of the "f" word. My blog is pretty clean compared to the way my mouth works in real life. You should hear me while driving.

Anyway, before Julie and Julia I was reading and I'm still in the middle of Charlaine Harris' Shakespeare's Landlord. I decided to give this a try after reading and thouroughly enjoying Harris' Southern Vampire series. Like I said, I haven't finished it yet but I started reading this book a couple weeks ago and it was fairly easy to put down and not pick back up in favor of another book. I still plan on finishing it in order to give it a fair shake but at this point I thinks it's safe to assume I won't be reading the second book in this series.

  2. I read Dead Until Dark before TRUE BLOOD started showing on HBO--just to see what it was about before watching--and I agree, it was easy to put down, but an okay read. My sister has since read nearly everything in Harris' backlist (including the Aurora Teagarden series and Shakespeare's Landlord and she said the Southern Vampire series is definitely the best).

  3. Have you seen the movie yet? It's good - though I have yet to read the book!

I've also read Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse books (though I refuse to watch True Blood!) and tried one each of her other three series. The Lily Bard (Shakespeare) book I didn't care for, but I didn't mind the Harper Connelly book.

I very much enjoyed Julie & Julia - the book and movie. If you haven't seen the movie yet, I highly recommend it.

  6. Oh my. I haven't done a Booking Through Thursday in FOREVER!

I read Julie and Julia at some point last year and made the mistake of reading it at lunch during the part where he sick got clogged. gross..I nearly puked my food. It was a funny memoir though. Have you read My Life in France? It's about Julia Child's time when she lived in France and how she got in to cooking in the first place. If you see the movie that's out, it meshes Julie Powell's book with this one. I really enjoyed that one and recommend it.

I'm mid-way through the "True Blood" books and I'm dying to share all the details with my husband but he doesn't want to know anything in case some plot show up in the show. Of course, I've realized that it is pretty loosely based anyway. I'm so over the MaryAnn character though on the show..hope she bites the dust in the finale.
