August Challenge, Day 7: Five Songs That Bring Back Memories

OMG!! This is a hard one, picking just five. I love music and always associate many memories with different songs and artists.

Wowsa. He's kinda good looking, right?

Almost anything in the country genre will always remind me of my husband because I didn't listen to country music before we met. Specifically though, Dierks Bentley for reasons I'd rather not go into. But Dierks' music brings back memories of when the Mister was deployed to Afghanistan. You might think that it would make me sad or depressed to hear his music and think of that time, but it was actually comforting.

They Say Vision by Res will always remind me of the time we lived in San Diego the first go around. I used to blast that song on my car radio with the windows down and the AC on full while cruising Lakeside. I love the upbeat rhythms. This song always puts me in a good mood.

I love this album cover.

Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult reminds me of Ohio. When the Mister was in boot camp, I used to make the hour and a half drive between my dad's house and my mom's house quite a bit. Or maybe this was while he was in MOS school. Anyway, that song seemed to always get played on the classic rock stations during the drive and any time that I hear it, that's what I think about.

Aberdeen is off of Cage's sophomore album.

Aberdeen by Cage the Elephant. This song will always bring back memories of driving my kids to school the last time we lived in San Diego. Alphabetically, it's the first song on my iPod. When I plug it in and play it through my stereo, it's always the song that comes up until I hit "random" and "next". I got really sick to death of the opening notes of that song, lol.

Anything Imagine Dragons, Muse, Of Monsters and Men, The Lumineers, M83, Atlas Genius, and lots of other alternative played on XM's Alt Nation channel the past couple months will always remind me of this last time in San Diego. We hardly ever listen to anything else when we're in the Mister's car. Mine doesn't have XM, lol. But he doesn't have a harness for his iPod like I do in mine so it all works out, heheheh.

August Challenge, Day 5: Something You Wish You Did Really Well

In no particular order...

This may seem weird. Why would anyone aspire to clean? But I wish I was one of those people that keep their house clean 24/7/365. If I lived alone, my house would be clean. I get sick to death of cleaning up after people all the time. Yeah. I wish I were a better cleaner.

I wish I could play a musical instrument. Any intrument really, but I lean more towards the piano. I love music and have always wished that I could play an instrument and hear the kind of music I wanted to hear, played the way I wanted it played, whenever I was in the mood.

I wish that I was a better writer. More, I wish I was a talented writer.

It's good to have aspirations I guess. ;)

Another Day of Firsts

Today was the first time the oldest child was allowed to wear makeup to school. Nothing too dramatic. Luckily for me, she seems to lean more towards the conservative side rather than the clown school side. She’s also the same way when it comes to her clothes. I’m keeping all my appendages crossed that she stays this way. I consider myself really lucky that I don’t have to fight with her about how she dresses and stuff.

Today was the first day that I’ve ever homeschooled a child. It went really well. Way better than her first day of school last year when she came home crying. We covered reading, spelling, math, and science today. I had a lot of misgivings about this undertaking but I honestly and truly think it’s the best thing for her. It’s only the first day so there’s still obstacles to overcome but we can’t do any worse at educating the youngest than public schools have done. This I know without a doubt.

Today was the first time that I’ve ever smashed a cell phone into a bazillion pieces. Well, to be more precise, a Marine Corps six ton did the job but either way, my BlackBerry is still dust in the road. I’d rather not say how it happened because I come off really bad in this story so don’t ask, heheh. I got REALLY lucky in that my line was eligible for Verizon’s new every two so I have a brand new BlackBerry Storm and I LOVE it. I’m sad that all of my contacts, saved e-mails, and pictures on my other phone are lost, but I have a new gadget so I’ll survive the loss.

Today is the first day that I’ve ever had the Uh Huh Hers on my iPod. I just downloaded their Common Reaction album from iTunes and I have to say that I think I’ll really love it. It reminds me a lot of the 80’s electronic pop kind of music. It’s also very much chic music too. They sound great and I love the  upbeat-ness to all their songs. It’s gonna sound pretty great at top volume in my car tomorrow, heheh.

Today was the first time I’ve ever run over two curbs in one outing. I don’t know what was wrong with me but those curbs kept jumping out in my way.

Now, I’m off to bed. Today is NOT the first time that I’ve ever hated getting up at 6:30 in the morning making it so I have to go to bed early at night just to get through the day. I’m so not a morning person.

Music Sooths the Savage Beast

Last night, I made a run with the hubs to get gas. He came home from his training last night but had to be up at 4:30 this morning to make it back in time which means he can’t get gas on his way. AnyWHO, I was sitting in his car while he pumped the gas and decided to look in his console to stuff some wires back inside of it. (He had his iPod cord and phone charger hanging out of it.) While in there, I noticed some CD cases and decided to see what they were. They were:  Blink 182’s Greatest Hits, a CDR copy of  Jack Johnson’s In Between Dreams, Angels & Airwaves’ We Don’t Need to Whisper and Foo Fighters Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace. There were also five CD’s in the CD player so I took them out to see what they were: The Jack Johnson CD, a recoded CDR that didn’t have writing on it, Gorillaz’s Demon Days, and LL Cool J’s Todd Smith. What the freaking heck is my point? None of the cases matched up with the CDs that were in the car except for Angels and Airwaves.

It’s been so long since I’ve bought or listened to an actual CD that I couldn’t even begin to guess where the missing CDs and cases are located. Probably in a box in my garage would be my best guess. Since having an iPod, I honestly don’t see the point of buying CDs anymore. I rarely download an entire CD on iTunes but when I do, it’s cheaper than buying an actual CD. I much prefer to listen to previews of tracks and download and pay for the ones that I want instead of buying an entire CD where I might like 2 or 3 tracks on it at best. People that know me best know to buy me iTunes gift cards for my birthday rather than CDs too. Heheh. Did I mention that I got four for my birthday last month?

Now, I’m going to take my long lost CDs and copy the songs that I like on them onto my computer so that I can have them on my iPod. Welcome to the highlight of my day. ;)

Pam at 30 Something tagged me for this meme. You know how I can’t resist a meme and I needed a break from putting up Christmas lights before I send them down the garbage disposal.

Music

Is it just me or does music suck more nowadays than it did say, 5+ years ago? I opened up iTunes for the first time in two weeks and the same lousy songs that were in the Top 100 are still there! I don't listen to the radio for the same reason: they play the same stinky ten songs over and over and over until you wanna jab your eardrums out. Has it always been like that and I'm just showing my age or what?? I'm in a music funk and I hate it when that happens.

My Ben and Jerry's Coffee Heath Bar Crunch ice cream gave me heartburn. Good excuse to stay up late and read, heheh.

Music Sooths the Savage Beast

I went on a downloading spree last night. Jennifer S. suggested that I needed to listen to some Bach in order to chill out and I took her advice. Then I took it a bit further and downloaded some Sinatra too, heheh. Who doesn't love Sinatra?? I also ripped three opera cds, one Mozart cd, and two Celtic music cds onto my computer to add to my "chill out" music on my computer. Despite being amazingly mellow when I went to bed last night, as soon as my head hit the pillow my mind went into overdrive and I didn't get to sleep until after 2 this morning. I just have too much stuff going on right now.

It's absolutely pouring rain here today. Bailey hates the rain and won't willingly go out in it. We literally have to shove her out the door so she can do her business. Hannah, however, doesn't care in the least and she'll stay out until she's soaked to the bone. Speaking of my dogs, I haven't posted new pictures of them in forever. I should do that. They're going to miss me while I'm gone.

My iLuv battery case for my iPod probably isn't going to make it here before I leave which really peeves me. I placed the order on 3/5 and it's only in processing as of today. My luck, it'll get here on Wednesday after I leave, lol.

Come fly with me. Let's fly, let's fly away! I leave in FIVE days!!
