February 17, 2012: Five Question Friday

1. What do you do when you are really upset to calm yourself down?

This is a tough one. I usually just let whatever's got me going run it's course I guess. I also try to think of other things. Sometimes I listen to music. Loudly. Loud angry music. Oh. And sometimes I throw things. Breakable things or things that leave dents in walls.

2. Do you go all out for V-day or is it just another day?

Usually, it's just another day. This year, however, the Mister got me the big box of Godiva truffles. He also got the girls a heart shaped box of chocolates. Oh. And my box had a Starbucks gift card inside too. I really liked what he got us, but even he admits it was a last minute, impulse buy. I don't need a specific day of the year to remember to show that I love my husband.

3. Are you more or less productive when Hubs is away?

Definitely more productive. When the Mister is home, I don't get anything done at all. When he's deployed, I stay busy to make the time go by faster.

4. What is your favorite time of day and why?

When I'm not exhausted, I like the evenings after the kids have gone to bed. I like the peacefulness of relaxing in the living room with the Mister in the quiet of the house.

5. What is your go to karaoke song?

I don't do karaoke. There isn't enough alcohol in the world that would induce me to get on stage and sing and make a fool out of myself. I also don't enjoy listening to other people butcher perfectly good songs either, cuz no offense, but if you were any good you would be doing more than singing karaoke in bar full of people drinking so's that they could listen to your screeching without wanting to jab out their eardrums with a swizzle stick. Just saying.

Note:

I typed this up Thursday night after a long day and I was pretty tired. Hence, the snarkiness. Still, I'm pretty sure in the light of Friday morning, I'll still stand by what I said. Either way, I'm not editing. Check the title of this blog.

Thanks, I Kneaded That

The Mister had duty last night so I let the cat sleep in my room to keep me company. She sleeps soundly for most of the night but usually wakes up once and wants to be all affectionate. It's hard to get mad at her for waking you up in the middle of the night when she's purring and laying on you wanting to be petted. Still, when she gets to the point where she starts kneading her claws and it's three in the morning, patience can get a little short. These are the places on me that she kneaded her claws:

  • My eye. That was the most painful.
  • My cheek
  • My chin
  • My neck
  • My shoulder
Then, she laid her chin on mine and went to sleep.

It's What's for Dinner

The Mister has duty tonight. Usually when he has duty, the girls and I have a dinner that he doesn't like. Traditionally, we like to have turkey tetrazzini. This time around, I forgot he had duty and therefore didn't get the stuff for turkey tet (as we like to call it for short) at the commissary. Oh. And I'm currently experiencing an adverse reaction to a medication in which my eyes are swollen, itchy, red, and burning so there's no way in hell you're getting me out in public until it goes away. I'm not going to the grocery store like this. No way, no how. So tonight, we're trying something new.

As you've heard me rave before, I love, love, love Pinterest. I've found lots of interesting recipes on there and we've tried several with varying success. Tonight, the girls and I are trying this:  Beef Stew

I feel slightly guilty at trying something new while the Mister will be working that looks so incredibly yummy but thems the breaks. I also couldn't have picked a better night, weather-wise, because we're supposed to be getting some wintry rain tonight with snow in the mountains. How perfect is hearty beef stew for a cold, rainy night? Am I right?

It's a crock pot recipe, so I gots ta get off of here and get it going. Maybe I'll remember to do a write up of how it turned out. Feel free to remind me if I don't. ;)
