Not So Bad

My Monday is off to a good start so far. I got to sleep in 20 minutes because I drove the kids to school this morning. The oldest child is going to an overnight fifth grade camp and I didn't want her to have to ride the bus with her duffle bag, pillow, and sleeping bag. Any day that you get to sleep in is a good day in my book.

It seems that I entertained some of you with my "Things" post, lol. I'm pretty surprised that I didn't get any negative comments. I'm not complaining, I'm just surprised is all.

So, our weekend went along pretty good. Friday was LOUD with the oldest child having a sleep over but they were so exhausted from the graduation activities that they fell asleep on their own around 10:30.

Saturday, we went to the beach. It was about ten degrees cooler at the beach, making it a chilly 90 degrees, heheh, and the water was perfect. I went boogie boarding with the oldest child and we had a lot of fun. All four of us ended up with a sunburn despite wearing 50 SPF sunblock and only being there for two hours. The weather here has been outrageous with highs in the upper 90’s and the heat index in the 110’s. I don’t know if I’ve said this before, but I have a bad feeling about the hurricane season this year. Our weather has been completely different this year than last, and last year we didn’t have any hurricanes hit the N.C. coast. It makes me happy that the kids will be in Ohio for part of the season.

Anyway, Sunday we didn’t do a whole lot of anything. I had to put in some time with my work because I got a little behind with stuff going on Friday and Saturday. The Mister had to work yesterday too because he took Friday off for the graduation. He got some neato pictures of the airshow from the roof of his building though.

This is Fat Albert. It’s the support plane that flies with the Navy’s Blue Angels. The Mister has gotten a ride in this before when we lived in California.

Today, I have some work to do and I’m going to my friend’s ultrasound appointment. They won’t video tape it for her so I'm going to record it with my nifty new camera. Did I mention we bought a new digital camera Friday? Yeah. It's nifty.

One last thing...I typed this post in Microsoft's Windows Live Writer. Me likes. Inserting pictures is super easy. It's a free application if any of you want to check it out for yourselves. I imagine it would make posting way easier for those of you with multiple blogs. You can also preview before you post, view the source code, insert tags, among many other things.

Holiday Weekend

I love holiday weekends. The Mister works half a day today and has both Monday and Tuesday off and the girls have Monday off. Yay!! We don't have any big Memorial Day plans. I would like to bbq something and maybe we'll hit the beach. I can't believe May is almost over. This month really flew by. To commemorate the unofficial start to summer and because I found this on Pam's blog today, heheh, I'm posting about my flip flops. This thing is pretty close if you take the "outdoorsy" part to mean the beach. I've never been to Costa Rica so I can't say if that is true or not. The most beautiful beach I've ever been to in the U.S. would be Pensacola and the Bahamas weren't too shabby either. I hope everyone else enjoys their long weekend too! :)

What Your Flip Flops Say About You

You are an outdoorsy person. You feel most comfortable in nature.

Beautiful scenery and good weather always brighten up your day.

Being outside allows you to feel calm and connected to the world.

Problems don't seem so big when you realize how small you are in the scheme of things.

Your ideal warm weather place: Costa Rica

Beach Bums

We made our first official trip of the season to the beach today. Yeah, the Mister and I went the other day but we didn't bring any of our beach stuff and we didn't stay that long. Today, we took all of our gear, bought new beach chairs, and took the kids. You couldn't ask for a more perfect day to go to the beach either. Perfect temps with a nice breeze to keep the heat off. The only bad thing was that Atlantic Beach is revamping the beach area which means that there were only two parking lots open and they were packed to the max. We ended up driving to the end of the road out to Ft. Macon which has a very nice beach area but you can't swim there because there are always dangerous currents. Still, you could get your feet wet, watch the boats cruise by, and enjoy the sand. I'm now sporting some healthy color in my cheeks and I'm invigorated. The beach invigorates me. I love it. I can't fully express how much I love it. If there is something in this world that speaks to my soul, it's the sound of the ocean. Hmm. Anyway, I got some reading in while we were there and I'm really liking Neverwhere. It's not exactly a beach read, but oh well.

I'm not sure what's on deck for tomorrow. It's weird not having a paper or a project hanging over my head, lol. At the end of every semester, I always have to get used to not having any deadlines. It's a nice feeling though, don't get me wrong. I'm making chicken and dumplings for my Mother's Day dinner. I know. It's traditional to go out, but I really want chicken and dumplings and I want them how I make them, so there ya go.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's out there. I hope you have a wonderful and quiet day.

Wonderful Saturday

We have had a great day so far today. It's 85 out and sunny with some clouds. It's a pretty perfect day weather-wise.

We took a drive out to Morehead City. They have some new stores that have opened up since the last time we were there and we decided to check them out. Also, the Mister wanted to show us the route he ran there when he ran in the half marathon. That was a ridiculous amount of road to run on when a car would work perfectly well. I told him that he would never convince me that running that far while you're bleeding is fun. Not in a million years.

Then, we drove on down the road to Ft. Macon cuz we hadn't been there since last winter or spring, I'm not sure which. Our timing couldn't have been more perfect because we got there right before they fired off a Civil War cannon which was pretty awesome. I actually sat right outside where they were firing the cannon cause the youngest child isn't overly fond of loud noises. We watched as a group of unknowing people walk into the fort right as they fired the cannon. Those people jumped so high I'm surprised they didn't pee their pants. I could have warned them but that wouldn't have been fun for me at all, heheh. We also walked along the beach for a bit while we were there. The wind is blowing pretty hard today and blowing sand is painful so we didn't stay long.

When we got home, we decided to give the dogs a bath since it's so warm outside. Hannah likes to attack the water as it's coming out of the hose but Bailey hates the whole process. But now they don't stink like dogs so it's all good.

Now, we're up to pretty much nothing. Oh!

And last night I made a ham dinner for dinner. The Mister and I had a craving for ham so we made one. We figured why do you have to have ham only on major holidays, right? Well, I discovered the reason. You only have ham or turkey dinners, meals that take 4+ hours to cook, in the colder months because it's too hot any other time of the year to have your oven on for that long. Regardless, the ham was scrumptious and the ham gravy was to die for so it was worth sweating for in the end.

And I'm off.

Pictures and a Video for Today

I uploaded a video from our trip to the beach today. The dogs had so much fun. You can tell from their fat tongues how much they were running and playing. Hannah's the leashed dog because she'll run off. Bailey's our other dog. They are fine pieces of dog flesh if I do say so myself.

Also, here's pictures of the light and our Christmas tree. Isn't it the ugliest light ever? Notice the broken light on the right towards the back, lol.

Stuff

I feel like rambling. I know. What makes this different than any other time that I post? Well, :P to you.

M's birthday went really well. She and her friend had a good time last night and she liked all of her presents. Today at the beach was kinda blah. There have been storms in the area so there was a yellow flag up today and it was definitely warranted. The surf was very rough. We only stayed about 2 1/2 hours.

On another note, C and are taking tentative steps to selling the house in VT. It's a long, boring, and complicated story that promises to have many plot twists but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the process won't be too painful. The ball, for the moment, is in our renter's court so all we can do now is sit and wait to see what she says.

Tomorrow is going to be full of the homework that I put off during the week. I suck.
