I finished "the book" last night, or rather, early this morning. I was sorta pissed because I didn't get my book until about 3 or 3:30 in the afternoon. I usually get it first thing in the morning when I pre-order. Oh well.
I have been debating on what I want to say about the book. Do I want to give a full review? Do I want to give away the ending? I already said that I'd be disappointed if Harry dies in the end so if I say I liked the book, people will figure he lived and if I say I hated it, people will figure that he died. SO! This post will contain spoilers. You've been warned. Read at your own risk.

Alright. Here we go.
The last book lived up to most of my expectations. Most of them. I was a bit disappointed that so little of the book took place at Hogwarts. I thought that it was sad that this would be our last chance to see Harry and the gang at school and only a few chapters took place there and it was all battle scenes.
Disappointment #2: I thought having Ron go off in an angry huff was a bit repetitive. Ron's mad at Harry, Ron loves Harry, Ron's mad at Harry, Ron loves Harry, etc. Been there, done that.
That was pretty much all that I didn't like about the book. I LOVED!!! the rest. Lots of action, some snogging, loyal friends, heart-wrenching partings, it was great. We all know Rowling isn't afraid to kill of characters, however, it was still incredibly sad that Fred, Lupin, Tonks, and Mad Eye had to die. Especially the newlyweds when they had just had a baby.
I also thought that it was great of Rowling to include an epilogue. It may be predictable, but I like a happy ending and I like for loose ends to be neatly tied off. I can't believe the series is finished. I feel like I said goodbye to some good friends. It was one hell of a ride.
I was thankful that my book was here by noon. Glad to hear you enjoyed it also.

ReplyDeleteReading this book was strange. It is SO unlike any of the others, that it barely felt like I was reading Harry Potter. I of course enjoyed it, just because it is HP, and I have been waiting for a conclusion for so long.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that the ending was quite confusing, and I need to re-read a couple times to completely understand what happened with the wands and Voldy's soul in Harry, etc.
The epilogue, I completely hated. It seemed like something out of fanfiction that a middle-schooler would write. I'm glad there was a happy ending, but it just seemed kinda lame and predictable.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you about how the book was different from all the others. I think that's why I missed Hogwarts so much.
I also plan on re-reading it. I read it so fast the first time through (I read it in less than 11 hours) because I was so anxious to see how it all ended, that I'm positive I missed a lot. I'm starting back at the first book though, lol.
As for the epilogue, I can see why you were disappointed with it. I liked it because it gave the book closure, however, it was pretty skimpy on the details and Rowling could've done a better job. It seemed rushed, almost like it was an afterthought.

Ahhh...yes of course. I posted something but nobody else who reads my blog will care, lol.At least my mother knows who Harry Potter is but I can speak for anyone else who reads it.
ReplyDeleteForgot to say I agree about the ending. It didn't seem like she put too much thought into it. I know it was just an epilogue but I felt she could have dug a little deeper so to speak.
